Smitty Systems

Smitty was created to help a child that could not “find” words when he wanted to communicate. We started with icon book systems, but found that we had two major issue with these:

1. Icons got lost

2. Icons were hard to find

Because our son, loved to work to interact with the computer, I created a software version of an icon system. It was an immediate hit. He has used Smitty to build upon his spoken vocabulary and has developed novel and complex icon compositions to express himself with the system.
